The transition from youth to adulthood can be smooth or incredibly difficult. What is the most important lesson you learned since middle school, and how has it guided you?
I learned that you always have to go with the waves, and take charge of your situations. I lost everything when I was a Junior in High school. I lived outside of New Orleans when Hurricane Katrina hit. I lived out of a hotel for about a month. Then I decided I wasn't going to do that anymore, went online, and found a boarding school. I sent them an email explaining my situation, and asking if I could attend their school. They sent me an application that day, I mailed it back, and then they were on the phone asking when I could come up there. It was in northern Indiana. That school was the best thing that ever happened to me. But if I had just let life take me, and not do anything about the situation I had been put into, I would have never been able to experience the amazing things I was able to experience at that school.
